When I Became President

Before I became President, I was Vice President for Roosevelt. I could see how hard he worked, dealing with all these problems for example the atomic bomb and the difficulties with the Soviet Union. But then soon after I became President, all these problems were mine to solve. As I told the reporters that on April 12, 1945 when I became President,"I felt like the moon, the stars, and all the planets fell on me". It was an exciting moment, and I was the first president to receive over 24 million popular votes. It's really tough to be a president because I once said "Within the first few months, I discovered that being a President is like riding a tiger. A man has to keep on riding or be swallowed." Now like I said before It was tough being a President, especially when you have to deal with dropping the atomic bomb.

More Facts About Me

Some of my hobbies were playing the piano, playing poker, walking, and swimming. My nickname was the "Man of Independence". In the first six months that I was president, I dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, ending World War II. In several newspapers in 1948, it was declared that my opponent won, but, I was the actual winner.

My Presidency

Franklin Delano Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945. I had only been his vice president for eighty-two days. He did not communicate to me very much about the worldly affairs or politics that were going on after I became sworn in as vice-president. I was later told about important initiatives relating to the war. For example, I was told about the top secret "Manhattan Project," where the world's first atomic bomb was going to be tested.

About My Life

Hello, my name is Harry S. Truman, and I am starting this blog to help people learn more about me and my life. I will start with an outline of my life. I was born on May 8, 1884. I was born in Lamar, Missouri. I grew up on many different farms, but in 1890, my family and I decided to settle in Independence, Missouri.

Even though I have had bad vision ever since I was a young child, I loved to read. The subjects that I particularly enjoyed were government and history. I also enjoyed playing the piano and I was very good at it.

As far as my education goes, I went to local elementary schools and high schools. After high school, I did not continue my education until 1923, and I attended law school from 1923-1924.

April 12, 1945 was a very important day for me. On that day, I became the thiry-third president of the United States of America, succeeding Franklin Delano Roosevelt, also known as "FDR".My vice-president was a man named Alben Barkley. This is all that I post for now, but next, I will talk some more about, my life and what went on during my presidency.
